HW 8/29

The Brief Thompson (49-57)

College requires active reading, while active reading requires curiosity from the reader. The passage we were assigned to read focuses on how to effectively read, critically read, take notes and find the intentions of the text. When the text is shorter, the reader is expected to find the central idea. The central idea helps us find out the subject, purpose and genre. This gives us an overview of the reading. It’s smart to then go more in depth and reflect, connect and see the exceptions the author conveys. We can further our understanding by taking notes such as annotations and summaries. For this specific assignment, we’re expected to make our own connections from the reading. The connection I made is that the passage read is expected to help us understand what our job is as readers. Along with that, we are giving the basic skills of making sure we obtain the information given and understand main points. Why are we reading this? What are we supposed to learn from this? How can this help me? And specifically, how can I make sure I’m a constructive reader .
